These prelims were apparently done in 1981, when Kane was due to take over the Lone Ranger strip, but it was cancelled before Kane's work saw print. (Thanks to Kenneth Landgraf for that bit of info.) The watch reminds me of the cover to one of the first comics I remember owning--The Atom #3, draw by Gil Kane.
