Commission, Dizzy & Graves

My first-ever commission. After having seen Walt Parrish's Risso commission of Dizzy Cordova and Agent Graves on a Cliff, I was jonesing for a Dizzy/Graves commission of my very own, so when Enrico announced Eduardo was taking a limited number of commissions, I jumped at the chance. Dave Johnson does the covers to 100 Bullets, but this piece is a glimpse of what a Risso cover to 100 Bullets might look like. Another big THANK YOU to the Muffinman for this puppy.

Azreal sample page

This uninked, unpublished sample page reveals that Risso works in non-photo blue pencil, then works over the lines in gray pencil. There's no sign of Risso searching for shape and form in the initial line, though. The lines are sure and tight. When describing his artistic process on a panel at S.D., Risso says he stares at the page for hours before putting anything on the page. When he finally starts drawing, he's already visualized the finished page in his head, which explains why each of his pages appears so thoughtfully composed and laid out.

Commission, Megan & Dizzy

My friend Henry Baba commissioned this piece, but decided to part with it to raise funds for another purchase. Check out how Risso uses alternating blacks and whites to establish foreground/background throughout this beauty. Thanks, Henry.
