My first twice-up page by the Dean. I picked it up in a trade. I love Giacoia's inks over Colan's pencils on this action packed Iron-man page. |

Leap Frog is one weird villian, but no one drew him like Gene the Dean, as this 2x pin-up from 1967 proves. The frog-ettes are original art but they've been cut out and pasted back on, presumably to make room for the text box on the lower right. You can see how the right-most frog's feet were cut off. But that's how the page was printed. Thanks Gene and Adrienne! |

Picked this up in a trade with Dan Forman, but flipped it before ever seeing it in another trade with Bill Howard. Regretted letting it go after seeing it in the flesh. As luck had it, Bill sold it back to mea few months later. I was never crazy about Colletta's inks over Colan's pencils, but this splash rocks up close and personal. |

Acquired from fellow Colanite, Philippe Benoist, aka Gurn, of France, this is a veritable artifact (hey, it's two years older than me!). Gene Colan names Milton Caniff as one of his primary influences, but I had never seen any Caniff in Gene's work until setting eyes on this page. Check out the figures in profile in the bottom-right and middle-right panels. |
My first-ever Colan page, and the first page I won and acquired via eBay. Long story short: I won a Kirby/George Roussous FF page but reserve wasn't met and when I contacted the seller he had decided to not sell it, even though I was willing to spring for the reserve. Anyway. I was a huge Capt. Marvel fan as a kid, and when I saw this piece on eBay, it brought back instant memories of that space ship in the top panel. |
Bought this from Gene and Adrienne Colan at San Diego, 2001, the show at which they surprised Gene with a 75th birthday panel. Jack Abel's inks never looked better over the Dean's pencils, IMO. |
